Three days of plein air painting at Garvin Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs AR in 2006 is still feeding me images as I review my drawings, photos and small on site paintings.
I live in an area filled with waterfalls, lakes, streams and I love to paint on location when ever I can. Painting en plein air engages all my senses, not just the visual. This studio painting was done from photographs and small studies.
Taking a walk after a storm passes and the sun starts to shine, you just want to stomp through the puddles like a kid. That is the feeling that wanted to get with this painting -- just invite you to splash away.
In Virginia many tidal creeks cut into the land along the Potamac River. This scene was near our home when we lived in Virgina before moving to Ft. Smith AR.
We lived in Virginia for a few years and loved to stroll the pathways along the tidal creeks in the early morning and late in the day. This painting was done from a watercolor sketch I did after our evening walk. When I found it recently in pile of papers when cleaning my studio, I decided to try it in oil. 12 x 24 oil
This is a small painting done en plein air at Garvin Woodlands Garden in Hot Springs AR. In April the trails are full of daffidills and tulips, flowering azaleas and dogwood trees.
In this painting I was exploring the design elements in nature, I must have mountains on my mind. Memories of a trip to Colorado, crossing the continental divide and then back again inspired this painting.
I have been painting in many mediums and with traditional subjects for 40 years. I now include abstracts in my inventory. Enjoy these selections from 2006 through 2011.
I lived in Fairfield CT for 25 years, painting and teaching painting. I was an elected member of the Silvermine Guild of Artist and taught at the Greenwich Art Society. I had several gallery shows in the late '80s and '90s.
My husband and I moved here, to his family home, when he retired in 1996. I am currently a signature member of ANA, Artist of Northwest Arkansas, and teach painting and give workshops in the area.
